Went there this past weekend and It was really great. The atmosphere is friendly and the staff is very helpful. The menu is limited but the food is well prepared and good. It allows for good conversation and at times you can even study here. I recommend this place.

A more accurate assessment
To be accurate, what happens is the artists, usually gay, come to a formerly crime ridden neighborhood where no property is treated with any respect, fix up their places, mix with other ethnicities (usually with other artist and gay people), and then when crime goes down, in come what are now called hipsters--trust fund babies who wear faux second hand clothes. Yuppies are too rich for here.

BOTHER. THE PLACE STILL HAS IT
This place is one of the better restaurants in Brooklyn. It has a limited menu, with the food well prepared. The wait staff is friendly and just causual enough. I havn't observed the owner dragging a fur around, but would not mind if she did as long as it's faux. (Actually, I don't know who the owner is.) The live jazz and other programs are excellent and they and the food do not cost an arm and two legs. By all means, try Smith Street in Cobble Hill. However, once you have been to Solomon't Porch in Bedford-Stuyvesant you will return.

Don't Bother This place Lost it
As of the past six months this only eatery for a hike is slow slow slow and should really hire someone who knows something about food service or any kind of service. The charm and potential is fading fast with no service staff and a pretentious new owner who spends too much time on the phone or dragging her fur around. What was a nice place is a waste of time and money. Better off getting on the train and head toward smith street cobble hill for real service and good food without the long wait and bad attitude.
