I can get up to 900 kbps when accessing my FTP hosted on my on campus desktop from my notebook. However it seems as if after 8 pm they throttle back speeds to about 100 kbps. This is from about 2 m away from the AP in the basement of WRW. As of this post you are alloted 1 GB per week (only off campus traffic is metered).

Always good

UT always has great connections

heeelp

I was sitting in the UGL and clicked on IE while on my powerbook (i recently bought a wireless internet card) and it responded with a polite "specified server cannot be found" what should i do? do i hafta set up IE somehow so it can connect to the server or what? plese help ^_^

UT free?

the connections at UT, both wireless and standard ethernet require that you are an affiliate with UT (e.g. student, faculty, staff, etc). you have to login with your UT EID via a web browser once you've connected. and there are limitations as to how much bit transfer you can have per month (i think) - at least they count it.

I used it in Gregory Gym but it asked me for a password. Is it really free? I have not much experience with wi-fi so maybe the password was for some other thing and not wi-fi login???

you need to put wireless in SEA

Plenty Fast

It's great. I need to get myself a laptop. Speeds of 400kbps on average.

Had a great connection in the Dobie food court but could not get IE. Nything I did wrong?

Idiot

I am a smart man. I go to UT. I am pissed at the idiot who works at the ITS. Wireless works in actuality at very few points on campus... idiot. -Smart Guy PS. Idiot

Cactus Cafe

I work for ITS at UT : the base station for the wireless access in the Union Building (the next room over from the Cactus Cafe) is right next to the Cafe, so it should work fine. This is the list of ITS public access points on campus [you need a UT EID to log in]

Places it doesn't seem to work at UT

In my recent travels around campus, I have been unable to get the wireless connection to work at:

- the Dorothy Gebauer building (home of the College of Liberal Arts offices), and
- the Cactus Cafe (very unfortunate).
